*Citizens band radio, more commonly known as CB radio, now mainly used by professional truckers, was a popular way of communicating in the middle of the last century. Before cell phones existed and much more powerful than walkie talkies, CB radio was a way for Americans driving in their cars to strike up conversations with friends and strangers. The CB broadcast band was legal for business or personal use and is shared by many users. CB radio heavily influenced the emergence on online chat rooms. At its height in the late 1970s nearly 60% of American cars on the road contained a CB radio.
